TITLE: Elementary Principal

REPORTS TO:  Superintendent

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in teaching or education-related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Master’s degree or specialist degree in administration or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Valid Iowa Professional Administrator License or eligibility to receive one.

Desired:

  • Bilingual 

JOB SUMMARY:  

Oversee the operations of an elementary school.  Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, an elementary principal is responsible for day-to-day school management, staffing, staff development, and ensuring a safe high-quality learning environment for students.  This position requires continuous use of independent judgment.  The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Department: Administration
261 days: Full-time, Exempt    
Salary Range: $115,000 to $140,000
$5,000 moving allowance into Marshalltown

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Articulates a student-centered school philosophy that promotes equity and high achievement
  • Collaborates with staff to design and implement educational research and best practices
  • Develops and promotes a building educational program
  • Ensures all students have adequate and appropriate opportunities to meet federal, state, and district standards
  • Engages the parents and the community to create shared responsibility of student learning and support
  • Integrates technology into the educational curriculum
  • Recognizes and celebrates accomplishments of staff and students
  • Monitors the effectiveness of curriculum, instruction, and learning
  • Relies on data to make teaching and learning decisions
  • Designs and implements school improvement strategies
  • Mandates professional development consistent with improvement strategies
  • Assists with recruitment and development of new staff
  • Evaluates staff and provides ongoing coaching for improvement through actionable feedback
  • Develops the master teaching schedule and any special assignments
  • Allocates school resources to prioritize learning
  • Responds in a timely manner to inquiries from district employees and staff
  • Meets the Iowa Standards for School Leaders
  • Attends work on a prompt and regular basis
  • Submits leave requests on time
  • Approves timesheets on time
  • Maintains satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Completes mandatory trainings and tasks on time as directed by the Superintendent or HR
  • Assists with other duties as assigned
