Dr. Gustavo Balderas is the superintendent of Beaverton School District. He became the district’s superintendent on July 1, 2022.
Dr. Balderas has been an educator for more than 28 years. Before becoming the new superintendent of Beaverton, he served as superintendent of the Edmonds School District in Lynnwood, WA.
Some of his career highlights include his work around equity and cultural proficiency through the state-level work of the Oregon Leadership Network and the State Action for Educational Leadership Project, and with district work in developing equity systems around instruction, student behavior and hiring practices.
Dr. Balderas graduated from Western Oregon State College with a secondary education degree, received his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Portland State University, and completed his doctoral degree in educational leadership at the University of Oregon.
Dr. Balderas focuses his community volunteer efforts on working with non-profit organizations that focus on underserved students. He serves on the Boards of the United Way of Lane County, Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, Trillium Health Care, Connected Lane County, and the Boys and Girls Club of Emerald Valley. Dr. Balderas also advises on the executive committees of the Early Learning Alliance and Northwest Christian University.
He is the co-founder and past president of the Oregon Association of Latino Administrators.
