MSDWT OVERVIEW 

The Metropolitan School District of Washington Township (MSDWT) is located in the northern section of Indianapolis, Indiana and Marion County. It is a dynamic community with broad diversity in cultures, religions, ethnic groups, races, and socioeconomic levels. The district has been an educational leader in Indiana for the last 60 years and offers a comprehensive educational curriculum with special activities and programs geared to provide enrichment, exploration, and instructional support for students. Job Title:   Assistant Director of Human Resources 

Reports to:  Director of Human Resources 

Contract Length: 260 Days 

FLSA:  Exempt 

Compensation:  $100,000-$113,000 

DescriptionCoordinate with the Director of Human Resources in planning, organizing and directing the human resources management activities for the classified staff in the following functional areas of responsibility:  compensation administration, employment, employee relations, training and development, affirmative action compliance, and employee data management.

Labor legislation: Familiarity with legislation, on a national or international level, that governs labor conditions in various fields between labor parties such as the government, employees, employers, and trade unions. 

Apply school corporation policies: Knowledge of the principles and rules that govern the activities and processes of Indiana schools. 

Job market offers: Experience with job opportunities available on the labor market, depending on the economic field concerned. 

Recruit employees: Hiring new employees by scoping the job role, advertising, performing interviews and selecting staff in line with company policy and legislation. 

Interview people: Knowledge of interviewing people in a range of different circumstances. 

Document interviews: Familiarity with recording, writing, and capturing answers and information collected during interviews for processing and analysis using shorthand or technical equipment. 

Assess character: Experience with assessing how a certain person will react, verbally or physically, in a specific situation or to a specific happening. 

Use communication techniques: Familiarity with applying techniques of communication that allow interlocutors to better understand each other and communicate accurately in the transmission of messages. 

Negotiate employment agreements: Knowledge of finding agreements between employers and potential employees on salary, working conditions and non-statutory benefits. 

Observe confidentiality: Experience with observing the set of rules establishing the nondisclosure of information except to another authorized person. 

Write work-related reports: Knowledge of composing work-related reports that support effective relationship management and a high standard of documentation and record keeping. Write and present results and conclusions in a clear and intelligible way so they are comprehensible to a non-expert audience. 

Employment law: Experience with the law that mediates the relationship between employees and employers. It concerns employees' rights at work that are binding by the work contract or provisions. 

Coordinate with payroll: Familiarity with determining how employees receive their wages, reviewing salaries and benefit plans and advising management on payroll and other employment conditions. 

Develop professional networks: Experience with reaching out to and meeting with people in a professional context.  

 

Preferred Experience/Qualifications  

  • Valid Indiana Administrator License 

  • 3-5 years of administrative leadership experience  

  • Experience in school administration preferred 

  • Experience supervising employees and human resource duties 

  • Understanding and commitment to urban education and communities 

  • Experience and commitment to anti-racist practices, social justice, underserved populations, and partnerships with urban communities and universities 

  • Experience in data analysis and  interpretation 

  • Expert interpersonal skills in the areas of: communication, conflict management, problem solving, empathy 

  • Excellent skills in collaboration and team building  

  • Excellent skills in writing, communication, and presenting  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Seldom = Less than 25 %                Often = 51 to 75%                  

Occasional = 26 to 50 %                 Very Frequent = 76 % & above 

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time (3) 

  • Ability to carry 25 pounds (2) 

  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations(4) 

  • Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter (4)

Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements 

Irregular work hours, as necessary, to complete administrative responsibilities. Minimal travel is required.
