SUMMARY: Assist in the organization, administration and supervision of the Special Education Program. Assist in the development and coordination for all Special Education classrooms, with a primary focus on secondary curriculum to ensure continuity within the district. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate/obtain materials for secondary classroom teachers. Organize Special Education Parent Advocacy Council meetings and events. Coordinate weekly meetings of department psychologists and monthly meetings of itinerant staff. Assist in planning and conducting effective in-service programs for all certificated Special Education staff, building principals and classroom teachers.  Assist in training of building staff in Special Education processes.  Serve as a resource for interpretation of rules and regulations governing programs for students with disabilities. Coordinate with Special Education staff, building principals, and Special Education teachers a planned program for students with disabilities.  Supervise the identification, placement and transition process for the department. Coordinate the delivery of support services to students with disabilities.  Act as district designee at IEP/MDT meetings.  Coordinate the department’s Extended School Year Program. Maintain/update the Procedures Manual and work with the department secretarial staff on district forms/records. Coordinate with building principals for supervision of district Special Education staff and Special Education programming. Deep understanding of Special Education Law. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Valid Washington State Program Administrator or Principal Credential. Knowledge of Special Education due process and regulations. Demonstrated organization, leadership and group process skills.  Ability to work as a team player.  Attendance and punctuality are important in this position.

Other benefits include $3,000 annually for professional growth and development, transportation allowance of $100-$150/month and cell phone stipend of $150/month.

Disclosure Statement and Record Check:  Pursuant to Chapter 486, Washington Laws of 1987, the recommended applicant, if not a current regular employee, will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating whether he or she has been convicted of crimes against persons listed in the law. In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol & FBI.  Employment is conditional based upon completion of the record check.
