New York University School of Law invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Law. We seek individuals with outstanding scholarly and professional careers who have demonstrated potential for academic and administrative leadership.
New York University School of Law is a preeminent global law school, featuring innovative teaching, cutting-edge research, and intellectual and professional development in a uniquely collegial environment. The Law School enrolls approximately 2000 students per year, primarily for study for the J.D. degree, in addition to 10 domestic and international LL.M. programs, and several dual degree and executive education opportunities. The more than 100 members of the full-time faculty have a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and international visibility. The law school’s nearly 50,000 alumni are national and international leaders in many areas of public service, private practice, business, and legal scholarship. The Law School recently completed a multi-million capital campaign which exceeded the original target by 20%.
The Dean of the Law School must have vision and leadership to foster innovation and excellence in research and in graduate education. The Dean is responsible for the planning and administration of the School’s academic and administrative programs. The Dean also leads the Law School’s strategic plan initiatives including its focus on leadership and innovation in legal education, the school’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, and its dedication to student success. In tandem with the Law School’s Board of Trustees, the Dean is responsible for overseeing the NYU School of Law Foundation, and the law school’s $500 million endowment that provides steady support for the Law School’s current and future needs, and soliciting ongoing operational and programmatic support. The Dean also represents the School in major University decision-making arenas and in the external community.
