The mission of the Sussex Montessori School (SMS) is to nurture the development of empathetic, collaborative, persistent, and innovative global and community citizens in accordance with the time-tested philosophy of Maria Montessori, Southern Delaware’s premier public Montessori school is located in beautiful Western Sussex County and provides tuition-free, Montessori education for students in grades K-6.
Established in 2020, Sussex Montessori is a public charter elementary school, serving grades K-6 in Seaford, Delaware, with a total enrollment of over 400 students. The school has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 56.08% White, 23.82% African American, 10.67% Hispanic, 2.48% Asian, and 6.95% two or more races.
Because all children develop at different rates, Sussex Montessori provides a warm, supportive environment in which each student can grow and thrive according to their individual needs. Teachers are “facilitators” rather than “instructors.” Such individualized, progressive education is critical in elementary school where the first six years of education establish students’ attitudes toward learning for the rest of their lives. Children who attend Sussex Montessori School work in unique, multi-age classroom clusters. Personalized learning, building peer relationships, and solving real-life challenges encourage innovative learning skills.
The Board of the Sussex Montessori Public Charter School seeks a new Head of School who will build on the accomplishments of the founders and move the school into a bright future. A multi-year contract will be offered in the range of $140,000 per annum subject to negotiations based on actual qualifications and experience. Eligibility for Delaware School Administrative certification is not required but preferred. All interested candidates should apply through the link on this website.
