EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: SUMMARY

This position administers Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs by facilitating the work of building-based administrators, teachers, counselors, and educational assistants as they deliver approved CTE curriculum and services; conducts program development, delivery, and evaluation activities in support of District goals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Works with CTE director, District administrators, and workforce development stakeholders to establish new and innovative CTE programs which emulate employment trends; works with school principals to determine CTE program offerings and select staff for the programs; recommends courses for addition to or elimination from curriculum; assists CTE director in evaluation of program effectiveness.

  2. Supervises assigned staff; assists school principals and CTE director in making hiring recommendations; appropriately evaluates, commends, and disciplines employees; assists CTE director in ensuring that appropriate Washington State CTE certification is current for all CTE staff.

  3. Works with industry representatives, advisory members, and teachers to develop curriculum and select instructional materials, supplies, and equipment; coordinates with CTE director, principals, and District administrators to establish and maintain industry-standard facilities.

  4. Coordinates with state and local educational agencies to ensure continuity and relevance of programs for students and assure delivery of current industry standards; leads District efforts in submitting CTE programs for OSPI approval; develops and maintains articulation agreements with labor and post-secondary institutions; coordinates District participation in Dual Credit program.

  5. Directs District support of Career and Technical Education teaching staff including professional development to effect changes and improvements in the delivery of instruction; supervises CTE instructional facilitators; assures that all CTE classes maintain a dual focus on both academic and technical skill development; visits schools regularly to review programs, share ideas, and provide feedback to improve teaching methods.

  6. Coordinates program development consistent with the established Career and Technical Education budget; sets priorities for materials, supplies, and equipment acquisition; assures that all expenditures follow District, state, and federal compliance guidelines.

  7. Establishes and maintains strong and effective working relationships with community organizations and area employers; markets instructional program in the community.

  8. Prepares, maintains, and submits reports required by the District and state and federal agencies; coordinates data collection and reporting related to CTE programs, interfacing with responsible District staff representing Finance, Assessment, and the student record system departments.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

  1. Participates in local, regional, and national associations and other professional development activities; maintains knowledge of educational trends; keeps abreast of latest research; provides relevant information to District staff; maintains knowledge and understanding of current laws, rules, and regulations regarding vocationally funded programs; attends District meetings concerning CTE.

  2. Manages special projects and performs related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis.

  3. Regular, reliable, predictable attendance or physical presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the performance of the work.

CONDITIONS

Required to work flexible and extended hours and days; required to travel to District and community sites; required to attend meetings beyond regular working hours; may be required to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, climb, and/or be mobile.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Master’s degree in a field related to Career and Technical Education from an accredited college or university; experience as stated in Washington Administrative Code (WAC) for Career and Technical Education certification and a minimum of five years of teaching experience; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.

Licenses/Special Requirements

  • Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment.

  • Washington State Career and Technical Education director certificate or Washington State high school principal’s certificate.

  • Washington State Career and Technical Education teaching certificate.

  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.

  • Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance

  • Knowledge of Career and Technical Educational principles, practices, and programs.

  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing Career and Technical Education at the District, state, and federal levels.
