General Definition of Work: 

The Assistant Superintendent for Community Engagement ensures an effective partnership among Albemarle County  Public Schools, families, volunteers, and community partners, leading to the accomplishment of the ACPS mission  of Learning for All. This Superintendent’s Cabinet Level position oversees the Office of Strategic Communications,  the Equity Education Specialists, and the Office of Family and Community Partnership, Volunteerism, and Outreach. 

Essential Functions: 

• Implement the plan for internal and external communications so that it aligns with the Division's strategic  goals through best practices in communicating with staff, families, the larger community, and media • Coordinate and collaborate with Superintendent’s Cabinet members to implement and sustain the  educational enterprise of ACPS 

• Support deployment and communication of the ACPS Strategic Plan across the Division and throughout the  school community 

• Lead Equity and Diversity services to support engagement of all children and families; research and  institutionalize best practices that eliminate the achievement gap among all enrollment groups. • Provide technical assistance and support to schools as they work to increase family and community  involvement and improve internal and external communications 

• Work with other offices and schools to establish, coordinate, and maintain mutually beneficial, strategic  partnerships with families, businesses, civic organizations, state, and county government, and colleges and  universities that can aid the Division in advancing student learning and improving the performance of  schools 

• Oversee the ACPS volunteer program 

• Oversee the ACPS senior gold card program

• Oversee family and community outreach to include student, family, and community forums • Oversee culturally responsive teaching and leadership credentialing programs in collaboration with the  Assistant Superintendent for Organizational Development 

• Supervise, evaluate, and coach professional and support staff assigned to the Community Engagement  department 

• Oversee the implementation of the ACPS Anti-Racism Policy 

• Develop and implement strategies to evaluate attainment of community engagement programming goals  through the ACPS strategic plan. 

• Other duties and leadership opportunities as assigned and encouraged by the Superintendent 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Comprehensive knowledge of K-12 curriculum, instruction, and assessment; demonstrated ability in written and oral  communications and interpersonal relations; proven ability to execute strategic planning processes; proven ability to  operate in a collegial environment; demonstrated conceptual skills and problem solving capabilities; enthusiastic  commitment to student learning; proven ability to think creatively; demonstrated ability to articulate a vision and  motivate people to act with a shared vision,; ability to think strategically and perform effectively under public scrutiny;  demonstrated ability to translate strategic educational concepts into language accessible to the public; demonstrated  supervisory skills a must. 

Education and Experience: 

Successful experience as a teacher and principal or an equivalent experience as determined by ACPS. Master's  degree is required, doctorate preferred; must hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia Department of Education License  in School Administration. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable will be  considered. 

Hiring Salary Range: $108,000 - $142,000 / Per Year, depending on education, experience, and internal equity Medical & Dental coverage, Retirement, Paid Leave among our excellent benefits offerings
