REPORTS TO: Superintendent
JOB GOAL: To assist the Superintendent substantially and effectively in the task of providing leadership in developing, achieving and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services. Supervises staff in developing, improving, and supervising the curricula and instructional programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists the Superintendent in directing the administration and coordination of the district’s educational programs.
2. Communicates to the Superintendent the requirements and needs of the district as perceived
by staff members.
3. Oversees curriculum development within the district and ensures that all district curriculum
aligns with state academic standards.
4. Serves as a communication source with, and for, teachers at the school, between schools, and
with the district on pertinent curriculum issues.
5. Keeps informed as to the operation of the instructional programs in all schools for the purpose of evaluating the instructional program and for improving teaching procedures through conference, demonstration, and other supervisory techniques.
6. Coordinates and implements district grant programs including but not limited to federal Title programs and/or other entitlement/competitive grants.
7. Initiates and administers staff development for certified and administrative staff.
8. Orders materials, equipment, and supplies necessary for the successful implementation of the objectives for all educational programs.
9. Attends local, state and regional meetings of educational programs personnel.
10. Collects and disseminates research information relating to present program status, program
effectiveness and instructional alternatives for the purpose of instructional programming.
11. Develops, coordinates and implements the district’s summer school/intersession program and
assures the acquisition of any Federal/State grants to assist in its implementation.
12. Ensures that curriculum and instruction align with the district testing programs.
13. Facilitates, monitors, and assists principals in the supervision and alignment of curriculum
for instruction.
14. Collaborates with the S.T.E.M. and Assessment Director to coordinate the preparation and
implementation of required State assessments.
15. Supervises and/or implements in-service programs for the purpose of improving curriculum
and instruction.
16. Supervises the implementation of the district’s English Language Learner (ELL) program.
17. Participates in the decision-making process for long-range planning regarding instruction,
programs, curriculum, textbooks, etc.
18. When applicable and/or requested to do so by the Superintendent, assists in the evaluation of
certified and classified personnel.
19. When applicable and/or requested to do so by the Superintendent and/or building principal,
will assume any and all responsibilities in their absence.
20. Works collaboratively with the high school district in implementing programs.
21. Attends district and Governing Board meetings.
22. When applicable and/or assigned by the Superintendent, functions as a member of District
committees.
23. Coordinates in conjunction with all staff the district’s public relations efforts as well as
optimizes the positions at the Welcome Center.
24. Monitors the progress of the district’s strategic plan initiatives.
25. Addresses parent concerns and complaints.
26. Other duties as assigned.

Required:

Desired Qualifications: This leader must be able to demonstrate excellence in supervision and administration of personnel and programs in a school setting, particularly in communities challenged by high levels of poverty and cultural diversity. A thorough knowledge of techniques of staff development, learning and family systems, as well as of family and community engagement frameworks, is essential. The candidate should have evidence of successful experience in strategic planning, goal development, and budgeting, as well as expertise in identifying, collecting, and analyzing data necessary to assess institutional climate and develop key strategies. Communicates effectively with all stakeholders; leads collaborative efforts with other departments, the Special Education Advisory Committee, county agencies, as well as not-for-profit and private partners.
Assists the Superintendent in developing a comprehensive annual budget that exemplifies school board and division strategic goals; manages and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance.

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Assistant Superintendent's position is part of an administrative team facilitating and supporting the progress of our district and its students. The successful candidate will be expected to be an integral team leader in all aspects of district leadership including, but not limited to, the following:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as an assistant to the superintendent and participate as a key member of the Superintendent's Cabinet and leadership team;
Provide leadership for the development and implementation of effective District business and support services (business operations, finance facilities, food service, transportation, maintenance and operations, and capital projects, etc.), including supervision and evaluation of program directors);
Represent the District in the development and implementation of property-related decisions.
Serve as a key member of, and be prepared to lead, District bargaining teams;
Represent the District in interactions with parents, business community, civic groups and other related organizations;
Work cooperatively with administrators in the development, implementation and evaluation of District goals, objectives, policies, plans, and procedures;
Plan and implement sound fiscal practices, including thoughtful consideration of all alternatives and sources of input, and transmit this information to the Superintendent, Board, staff, and communities.
Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations on district finance and budget to the board of directors, principals, SSD leaders, staff, community groups, regional and state partner meetings, and other educational settings;
Develop, recommend, and administer the District budget, including providing key information to the Superintendent and others;
Work with the Executive Director of Human Resources to ensure staffing allocations are within budget parameters;
Develop, implement and manage current business practices, including the use of current technology;
Maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations and proposed legislation;
Select, supervise, evaluate and train staff as appropriate;
Use effective written and oral communication skills in interactions with staff, students, Board of Directors, parents and community groups; and,
Function as a team player, be a self-motivated individual and a positive motivator of colleagues and staff.

This position reports directly to the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Education: Bachelors' Degree required; Masters' Degree in Business, Finance or related field preferred
Experience: Previous successful experience at the administrative level required. Previous successful experience in a K-12 school finance system preferred. Previous experience with state school audit process preferred. Previous experience in construction management preferred. Previous experience with Washington K-12 business and operations management preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of school funding, finance, and fiscal issues.
Demonstrated evidence of ability to work with people from all diverse backgrounds.
