Reports to: CEO / President Compensation: Competitive Salary and Robust Benefits Location: Chicago, IL

Northwestern Settlement is a dynamic and innovative leader in creating transformation opportunities for children and families to disrupt generational poverty. All programs nurture, educate and inspire so that families can take personal responsibility for their futures and attain self-sufficiency and reach aspirations. The Principal will lead Rowe in instructional leadership, school culture, and staff management, ensuring that Rowe integrates and collaborates with other programs of Northwestern Settlement to provide a multilayered approach for excellent community-based family and school programming.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Achievement

  • Meet targets for overall school achievement and academic progress for 900 scholars in two buildings

  • Monitor and track trends in student performance across all academic areas, to ensure school performance aligns with Northwestern Settlement’s mission

  • Empower and motivate parents/guardians and communities to become engaged in student learning

School Leadership

  • Hire and retain high-performing staff and support their ongoing professional development

  • Drive instruction and support staff improvement towards meeting school goals, as well as overall scholar and school performance

  • Create accountability systems within the context and rules of Rowe policies and regulations

  • Effectively evaluate teacher performance and guide teachers to reach performance goals

  • Enhance and sustain a culture of excellence among school staff to carry through key areas of Northwestern Settlement culture, student discipline, classroom management, assessment, data analysis, instructional planning, instructional delivery, and use of the curriculum to improve teachers’ skill level in an effort to produce the best quality scholar experience

  • Strengthen overall integration between Rowe and other Settlement programs

  • Manage Rowe facilities in collaboration with the Operations team

  • Work in close collaboration with colleagues as a member of the organizational leadership team

Personnel Management and Development

  • Genuine passion for educating high capacity staff and scholars in a diverse culture

  • Oversee and evaluate the work of Rowe’s leadership team and teachers to ensure consistency with the responsibilities of those roles, teacher performance, and day-to-day operations

  • Manage all school personnel in all aspects of work, and evaluate according to the assigned rubrics for those positions and specified goals

  • Other responsibilities and special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or higher in Education required Minimum 4 years proven, successful experience in school leadership required

  • Possess valid Illinois Professional Educator License required

  • Possess valid Illinois General Administrator License (K-12) Principal Endorsement required

  • Strong interpersonal skills with scholars, parents, colleagues, and community members required

  • High expectations for personal and team performance required

  • Bilingual English/Spanish - written and oral strongly preferred

  • Excellent fiscal management and budgeting skills required

  • Familiarity and experience with STEAM education programming required

  • Availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties required

  • Participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings is required
