Principal

Fort Belvoir Upper Elementary School, Fairfax, Virginia

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the nation’s 11th largest school division, located in the Washington D.C. region, is seeking a dynamic new principal for Fort Belvoir Upper Elementary School serving students in grades 4-6.

Uniquely located on the Fort Belvoir Army Installation, the campus serves military-connected students from all five branches of service: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard who live on Fort Belvoir. With approximately 80 dedicated staff members serving more than 670 students, Fort Belvoir serves the educational needs of a broad spectrum of students, including those with learning disabilities, second language learners, and twice exceptional students. Fort Belvoir Upper School provides special education programming and Advanced Academic supports for students qualifying for services.

Fort Belvoir facilities are fully networked and equipped with the latest technologies: iPADS, document cameras, SMARTBoards, multiple wireless mobile and stationary computer labs, and laptops within each classroom, which immerse students in tools for the digital age. Staff members participate in ongoing training to naturally embed instructional technology tools into daily instruction. At the Upper School, Band, Strings, and Choral programs are offered to develop and support our budding musicians. Student leadership is nurtured through such programs as Safety Patrols, Student Council Association, Peer Mediators and our in-house morning news shows.

The school has a STEAM Lab, Science Center and a STEAM resource teacher providing inquiry-based hands-on lessons to all students. Additionally, Fort Belvoir has outdoor classrooms that include native plant gardens and vegetable gardens that enable students to collect authentic data. The STEAM program also benefits from partnerships with businesses and professionals that continue to support teachers in making connections to STEAM careers.

The principal directs and is accountable for the planning, assessment, instructional leadership, human resources, communication, community relations, finance and safety and administrative management required to manage the instructional and special programs, organization, and facilities of Fort Belvoir Upper Elementary School.

Qualifications: Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in administration and supervision preK-12, plus seven years of progressively more responsible experience in teaching and administration or supervision, with a minimum of three years administrative experience. A regionally competitive salary and benefit package will be offered.
