GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lincoln Principal is responsible for the administration of all aspects of Lincoln Elementary School in alignment with the District mission, the policies of the School Board, a vision of inclusion, and administrative directive of the Superintendent. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership

  • Facilitates a culture of inclusion and cultural acceptance in a diverse growing community. 

  • Lead building staff in establishing culturally responsive practices. 

  • Supervise the use of the school building by developing and administering the building budget and coordinating staff schedules with building utilization in a way that supports the community vision our Board has established. 

  • Promotes open communication and collaboration  with faculty members, parents, students and the community through meetings and committee participation in a way that welcomes our diverse needs. 

  • Build and support a culture of academic excellence through review and Professional Learning Community work on academic data. 

  • Participate in curriculum development and improvement.

  • Serve as a consultant to the School Board by assisting in the development and administration of Board policies and procedures, attending Board meetings at the request of the Superintendent and reporting on building concerns.

  • Effectively implement the district safety plan and empower staff to train students in operational procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

General

  • Bilingual preferred, Bicultural required.

  • Facilitate and lead the activities of educational staff.

  • Direct and organize the implementation of all school activities.  Develop a master calendar of school-sponsored events.

  • Participate in conflict resolution by providing assistance to employees, investigating and resolving employee grievances and mediating disputes between the school and community.

  • Develop the Master Schedule for teachers and students.

  • Facilitate a building leadership team.

  • Handle confidential matters properly.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Interact effectively with others.

  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills.

  • Exhibit strong public relations skills.

  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and other district residents of a growing and diverse community. 

  • Influence people in their opinions, attitudes, or judgments in the best interest of students and the school community. 

  • Perform various duties as required by this position. 

  • Support the Social-Emotional needs of students.

  • Perform effectively under stress.

BUDGET AND FINANCIAL PLANNING

  • Administer Lincoln Elementary budget in a manner consistent with building goals and within School Board and administration policies.

SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION

  • Perform direct supervision of all Lincoln faculty and support staff. Conduct teacher observations and performance evaluations.  Recommend to the Superintendent renewal/nonrenewal of contracts of employees under supervision.

STAFF RELATIONS/DEVELOPMENT 

  • Participate in the hiring and selection process of all Lincoln employees.

  • Provide leadership to teaching and support staff.  Develop the master schedule of classes and assign teachers to classes; determine support staff assignments.

  • Attend professional organization meetings, workshops, and read professional literature to keep abreast of current research, issues, developments and trends.

  • Maintain and update faculty handbooks.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY RELATIONS 

  • Establish, build, and maintain relationships with a wide constituency, including parents, parents groups, building and district staff, community agencies, and other educational professionals.  Serve in a public relations capacity. 

STUDENT RELATIONS

  • Demonstrate and foster school support by attending school sponsored activities and special events that recognize student achievement.

  • Maintain a visible profile in the school.

  • Ensure appropriate student conduct.

  • Welcomes all students and community members into the greater school community in a way that facilitates inclusion. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • DPI Licensure

  • Master’s degree with coursework in school administration

  • Three years minimum successful teaching experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual (Spanish)

  • Demonstrates experience, or professional growth, in working in/with diverse communities.
