SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

SAU 39

AMHERST, MONT VERNON, SOUHEGAN COOPERATIVE HIGH SCHOOL

NEW HAMPSHIRE

The SAU #39 Board invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools. Located in the culturally rich and historic south-central area of the state, the towns of Amherst and Mont Vernon provide their own elementary schools, and beginning in 7th grade, Mont Vernon sends its students to the Amherst Middle and Souhegan Cooperative High Schools. Two major state highways pass through Amherst, providing easy access to New Hampshire’s lakes, mountains, and seacoast. With populations of approximately 12,000 in Amherst and 2,400 in Mont Vernon, the communities provide a quintessential small town New England feel, while also bustling with local activities and events.

SAU #39 consists of five buildings operating four schools for the three school districts that serve the two towns. These schools serve approximately 2,300 students.  All facilities are attractive, and the district boards work hard to ensure they provide the physical resources to support the needs of all learners.

Parents and community residents are rightfully proud of the successes of the schools and consistently provide financial and resource support, which fosters the highest possible achievement for all students.

The Central Office is capably supported by experienced staff including two Assistant Superintendents of Schools, Business Administrator, Director of Student Services and Director of Human Resources.  In addition, the SAU employs staff responsible for technology, food services and buildings and grounds.

This is an exciting opportunity for a school leader to build upon the historical success of SAU #39. Candidates should have experience as a classroom teacher, school administrator and/or a system wide/central office leader.  A doctoral degree is preferred but not required.  State superintendent certification or certification eligibility is required.  The successful applicant should have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders and an ability to bring communities together around common goals. Qualified candidates must have some or all of these skills: budget development and strategic planning, strong central office and/or building administrative experience and demonstrated success in team building.

The school board offers a multi-year contract with a competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Screening of applications will begin on November 18, 2022, with a starting date of July 1, 2023.
