Hanover County, Virginia is a growing community of over 100,000 residents located 12 miles north of the state capital of Richmond.  Known as the birthplace of Patrick Henry, for the location of one of the nation’s oldest courthouses, and home to Kings Dominion Amusement Park, Hanover County spans 474 square miles.  Hanover County enjoys easy access to major interstate highways and is located within a 90-minute drive of Washington, D.C., Virginia Beach, and the mountains of the Shenandoah National Park.*

Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS) is an award-winning school division that serves approximately 17,000 students in grades Pre-K – 12 across 24 schools.  HCPS is widely regarded for its commitment to educational excellence and fostering a strong sense of community. Known for its dedicated educators and robust academic programs, the district consistently emphasizes student achievement and personal growth.

The district offers a well-rounded curriculum that integrates advanced academic opportunities, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses and dual enrollment, along with a variety of extracurricular programs in arts, athletics, and career and technical education. Its schools are recognized for maintaining safe, inclusive, and nurturing environments that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.  HCPS has the highest percentage of schools accredited by the Virginia Department of Education in the Richmond Metropolitan area and HCPS students earned the highest passing rate in mathematics and is tied for the highest passing rate in science among the 15 largest school divisions in Virginia.**

The Hanover School Board is seeking an outstanding executive educational leader who understands the County’s values, and will work to ensure every student is ready to become an important part of the community. The successor superintendent is expected to become a visible and integral part of the county community. 

Candidates must have or be immediately eligible for a Virginia DOE 8VAC20 Division Superintendent License. A multi-year contract will be offered with a salary in the range of $250,000 per annum subject to actual qualifications, experience, and negotiation.
