District Overview
The Irvington Union Free School District is located in the village of Irvington in Westchester County, New York, alongside the Hudson River, 15 miles north of Manhattan. The district values its deep ties to the community; together we celebrate the diverse backgrounds and experiences of all students, and are committed to providing high-quality education and fostering academic achievement in a nurturing, inclusive environment. The District benefits from a dedicated administration, faculty, staff, and robust partnerships with the Irvington Parent Teacher Student Association, the Irvington Booster Club, and the Irvington Education Foundation.
The District consists of approximately 1,750 students across four schools with the majority of its high school students enrolled since Kindergarten. Class sizes allow teachers to know their students and address individual strengths, passions, and challenges. The District boasts a 95% 4-year high school graduation rate with 97% of graduates moving on to higher education. The District has typically garnered strong support for its proposed budget ($73,079,120 for 2023-24 passed with 78% of the vote.
Irvington’s Strategic Plan seeks to develop students who are courageous learners, engaged citizens, effective communicators, and self-aware individuals. All of the District’s schools have been recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. Among the District’s noteworthy programs, initiatives and offerings are:
An articulated K-12 sequence in science, engineering, and computer science, including Project Lead the Way curriculum (K-12) and a Science Research program at Irvington High School in which students consistently win local, state, or national awards;
A broad-based high school curriculum of more than 128 courses, including 21 Advanced Placement courses, 22 honors courses, 6 dual enrollment, and 27 college-level courses. The District provides equity of opportunity to rigorous academic classwork through open AP enrollment;
A world language program that offers Spanish and French starting in 6th grade and Latin and Ancient Greek starting in High School. High school students can obtain the Seal of Biliteracy program;
Initiatives to support social-emotional learning for all students, including working with CASEL and Welcoming Schools;
Over 58 athletic offerings throughout the academic year across varsity, junior varsity, and modified (7th and 8th grade) levels;
A wide variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities with over 60 clubs at the middle school and high school; and
A commitment to educational equity through our work with the Framework for Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education, and our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) approach to instructional interventions.
Salary Range: $280,000 – $310,000, negotiable based on experience and qualifications, plus a highly competitive benefits package
Start Date: Anticipated July 1, 2024, or as soon thereafter as possible.
