The Manitou Springs School District 14, Board of Education, is seeking an experienced educational leader to serve as Superintendent.  The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2023.

McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in collaboration with the Colorado Association of School Boards, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.

Enrollment: 1,300 students

Location: At the base of Pikes Peak in western El Paso County, Colorado; 10 miles northwest of Colorado Springs

The Qualifications

The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for outstanding educational leadership.

The Agreed Upon Roles of the Superintendent of the Manitou Springs School District are:

  1. The Superintendent establishes and implements a vision for the district and student learning outcomes

  2. The Superintendent supports the Board of Education in the effective governance of the district

  3. The Superintendent represents the school district in all public matters.

The Board has further identified the desire for a leader who:

●       Owns a proven record of successful educational leadership

●       Has a solid understanding of Colorado School Law and Finance

●       Demonstrates a visionary leadership style

●       Is a creative, strategic thinker with vision and focus

●       Embraces innovation and encourages schools to serve as a catalyst for change

●       Models a collaborative, consistent and fair leadership style

●       Builds relationships and trust among all stakeholders

●       Exhibits strong listening skills

●       Has experience leading successful bond campaigns and capital improvement projects

●       Holds people accountable and engages in difficult conversations

●       Maintains a high level of visibility in schools and communities

●       Embraces shared decision making

●       Builds community trust

●       Understands and embraces a district-wide approach to trauma-informed care.

●       Demonstrates integrity, honesty and ethical behavior

●       Establishes and communicates high standards

●       Appreciates and strategically addresses the challenges and opportunities of competitive school choice

Further qualifications for the position include:

●       Education administration experience required.

●       Classroom instruction experience required.

Salary Range:  $165,000 - $180,000

Search Timeline:

●       Closing Date for Applications:  March 22, 2023

●       Board of Education Selects Finalists: April 6, 2023

●       Interviews with Board of Education: April 20-21, 2023

●       Selection of New Superintendent: April 26, 2023

●       Start Date: July 1, 2023
