The Anne Arundel County Board of Education seeks an outstanding educational leader to serve as Superintendent of Schools beginning on July 1, 2022.
Anne Arundel County, Maryland is rich in history and natural beauty. It is well renowned for its access to the Chesapeake Bay and a variety of water-related activities. The county is home to the state capital of Annapolis and the United States Naval Academy, as well as being convenient to the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metropolitan areas.*
The Anne Arundel County Public School District (AACPS) is comprised of 128 schools serving approximately 85,000 students. Earning 18 National Blue Ribbons, 21 Maryland Blue Ribbons, and widely recognized for its Outdoor Education Program and Centers for Applied Technology, AACPS is a regional and national leader in providing quality educational programs for students. Magnet Programs such as International Baccalaureate, STEM, BioMedical, and Performing/Visual Arts combine with school-based Signature Programs such as Engineering, Global Citizenship, Environmental Literacy, and Homeland Security to enhance the learning experience for all students. Highly qualified teachers, many of whom are National Board Certified, are an integral part of the organization. More than 84% of graduates pursue post-secondary education and over $1.2 billion in scholarships have been awarded to graduating seniors over the past decade.**
The board members are looking for an innovative educator who will lead the organization to nurture and educate all students to be well-prepared for community engagement, career entry, and college - ultimately empowering them to create a better quality of life for themselves, their communities, and the next generation. The next superintendent will work to ensure that students graduate as caring citizens with the dispositions and skills necessary to think, read, write, compute, and communicate effectively, as well as work independently and collaboratively with others from diverse backgrounds; engage in innovative interdisciplinary analysis and problem solving, and confidently contribute to solutions for real world issues.***
Specific desired leadership characteristics and qualifications are expected to be available and posted on or around March 24, 2022. Candidates must possess the proper certification or be immediately eligible to obtain the same. A multi-year contract will be offered with a salary in the range of $300,000 per annum subject to negotiation based on qualifications and experience.
