The Mississippi Department of Education seeks a highly qualified State Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position January 1, 2023 (negotiable).
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.
Location: Jackson, Mississippi
The Qualifications
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The board has identified the following desired characteristics:
Experience as a successful and visionary education leader with the ability to work with the State Board, Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) Staff, Superintendents and Legislators to ensure that Mississippi students are a priority.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to create and cultivate positive working relationships, be approachable with all stakeholders, build high performing teams and represent a positive image throughout the state.
Experience in identifying, implementing and assessing the important work required to successfully achieve the State Board Strategic Plan.
A passionate commitment to improve student performance for ALL Mississippi students and to identify and close student achievement gaps by addressing the challenges of a racially, ethnically and culturally diverse state population.
Candidate holds a terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or JD)
Experience leading a school district or state to successful outcomes
Hold or be able to obtain within 30 days of accepting the position a valid Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) Administrator License
