The School Board of the Nyssa School District 26, Nyssa, Oregon, is seeking a highly qualified, fully certified, educational leader to serve as Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position, July 1, 2024.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the School Board in identifying and screening the candidates.
Enrollment: 1,500
Location: Located in Malheur County, along the Snake River on the Idaho border, in the region of far eastern Oregon known as the “Treasure Valley.”
The Qualifications
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The School Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The School Board seeks a Superintendent who possesses the following personal qualities and characteristics:
Is a visible, meaningful and contributing member of the community
Is committed to establishing a long-term relationship with students, their families, school district staff and administrators and the Nyssa community
Is a visible and supportive presence in all aspects of the schools putting students first
Is approachable and inclusive – working with sincerity and respect with a wide variety of constituents
Is collaborative and able to bring people together
Is a proactive and creative problem solver who is able to make difficult decisions in a firm and fair manner
Has a broad cultural perspective and understanding especially of the Latino culture
Has effective listening and communication skills – orally, written, non-verbal - with all constituents – all staff, parents, students and community members
Is committed to excellent communication and developing and maintaining a positive relationship with the school board
Has a high degree of integrity and honesty with strong core values that are consistent with our rural community
Understands school finance, demonstrating sound fiscal stewardship and management, knowing state law and federal programs
Is a student focused, proactive visionary focusing on continual improvement based on constant assessment
Is a strong manager who is personally organized
Required:
Has or is able to obtain an Oregon Superintendent license
Three years experience as a lead administrator
Preferred:
Experience, familiarity and understanding of a small rural school district and agricultural community
Ability to speak Spanish
Compensation: $145,000 to $155,000 DOE
Search Timeline:

Interviews with the Board of Education: March 18-20, 2024
Selection of new Superintendent: March 25-April 5, 2024
