SUPERINTENDENT

North Salem Central School District

Westchester County, New York | www.northsalemschools.org

North Salem is a residential community located in the northeastern corner of Westchester County. With a district population of 5,000 and a student population of 1,100, North Salem is best described as being quaint in size, and abundant in opportunities. With a unique mix of horse farms, rolling hills and suburban housing, this community benefits from ease of access to New York City which is about 50 miles away.

Our district is composed of two buildings. Our elementary school is home to 400 students in grades K through 5. The second building is occupied by our middle school/high school, housing 300 students in grades 6 thru 8 and 400 students in grades 9 thru 12.

Our mission which was adopted in 2009, is to engage students to continuously learn, question, define and solve problems through critical and creative thinking. In pursuit of this mission, we believe that all students are capable of learning and that all students should be both supported and challenged to continuously improve. Our mission is evident in a program that encompasses the academic, intra and interpersonal skills that are essential for success:

  • A commitment to small class sizes with most classes having less than 20 students.

  • An elementary school where our youngest students can access a variety of enrichment opportunities that include a World Language (FLES) program that begins in kindergarten.

  • A middle school where students enjoy a solid curriculum that is complemented by honors and gifted opportunities.

  • A high school offering 16 AP courses, numerous art studio and performing arts opportunities and a variety of co-curricular activities. Special courses such as a community based Senior OPTIONS capstone project and a 3-year science research program are offered.

  • A sports leadership program encompassing 51 interscholastic sport teams that are open to grades 7 thru 12.

  • A comprehensive special education program focused on meeting the academic and social-emotional needs of all students, including a sought-after Structured Teaching Education Program (STEP) program which is open to both in and out of district students.

  • A commitment to DEI education that celebrates the strengths of learners and cultivates diversity across a range of stakeholders.

  • An outstanding faculty, staff, and administration.

  • A highly educated and involved parent community, which provides staunch support to the schools.

  • A strong relationship with numerous community groups that contribute in many different ways to enhance the schools and the educational experiences of our students.

The North Salem School District is committed to excellence. The district is an active participant in Ed-Leader 2I and the Tri-State Consortium. We are accredited by the University of the State of New York and by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. We have achieved a Magna Award (NSBA), been designated five times as an "Essential Elements School to Watch" NYSED) and as a Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education.
