Albemarle County Public Schools

Albemarle County Public Schools is committed to providing all students the opportunity to learn from talented, diverse educators who represent the many cultures and experiences of our community. We seek to hire leaders who demonstrate the ability to work with culturally diverse students, staff, and families, who see themselves as lifelong learners – always willing to learn new skills to best meet the ever-changing needs of our students, staff, and school community.

In Albemarle County Public Schools, we work to build school communities that share the responsibility to recognize and end racism, eliminate inequitable practices that result in achievement gaps, and support the unique gifts, talents, and interests of every child. ACPS is the first school division in the state of Virginia to adopt an anti-racism policy. Our strategic plan, Learning for All, guides our work.

We seek highly effective leaders who are able to help us achieve our Mission: Working together as a team, we will end the predictive value of race, class, gender, and special capacities for our children’s success through high-quality teaching and learning for all. We seek to build relationships with families and communities to ensure that every student succeeds. We will know every student.

Currently, ACPS is undergoing an audit of our instructional practices through a partnership with Bellweather. Through this audit, we are focused on the essential question:

Why are pass rates for ACPS students of color on the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) for K-5 reading, K-5 math, and high school Algebra I lower than the averages for other students of color in the state and lower than their peers in other demographic groups in ACPS? The new Assistant Superintendent for Instruction will be charged with leading implementation of the audit’s recommendations.
