Description 

Lower Merion School District is seeking to fill a key leadership role within its administration: Principal of Lower Merion High School. The responsibilities of the High School Principal primarily involve being the instructional and organizational leader for Lower Merion High School, which is one of the District's two high schools. This is a 12-month, LMOSA ("Act 93") position. Competitive salary and benefits. LMSD seeks a candidate for this position with the following qualifications: 

  • PA Certificate as Principal (Secondary or K-12) or comparable Out-of-State 

  • Certificate with eligibility to convert to PA Certification. 

  • Prior experience as a Building Administrator required; experience at the Secondary level preferred 

  • Demonstrated success as instructional leader.

  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction and assessment and PA Standards. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with outstanding ability to communicate with students, staff, administrators, parents/guardians and community members. 

  • Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred. 

  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, administrators and community members. 

  • Must demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence; must be empathetic.

  • Must be able to analyze complex situations and to focus on many tasks or issues at the same time and for extended periods of time. 

  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 

  • Able to maintain emotional control under stress and/or in controversial and/or confrontational situations, frequently in a fast-paced environment. 

Essential Job Functions include: 

  • Responsible for overseeing student achievement. 

  • Monitor academic programs to ensure they meet or exceed student academic, social and emotional goals. 

  • Provide general supervision and educational direction for all staff members. 

  • Be responsible for the formal evaluation of all staff members. 

  • Serve as a leader in the establishment of a positive building climate for staff members and students. 

  • Serve as a resource person with ultimate responsibility to resolve problems involving staff, students, parents and the community. 

  • Serve as a key team member in supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives related to high school operations, staffing, instruction, and all other relevant functions. 

  • Plan and attend and sometimes preside over meetings with staff on various tasks, projects and departmental/curricular areas. 

  • Work with the Operations Department related to the needs of the physical plant, ensuring that general maintenance, cleaning and cafeteria operation, building/renovation projects are coordinated and completed as planned. 

  • Prepare the master schedule and coordinates curriculum planning, writing and implementation. 

  • Meet and effectively communicate with parents and parental groups and occasionally represents the School District to other outside groups. 

  • Perform various administrative tasks such as completing various internal and external reports and reading and writing correspondence. Be responsible for building budget preparation and spending as well as for preparing equipment and supply requisitions under established guidelines. 

  • Be responsible for student discipline, ensuring consistency with District policy and guidelines. Attend building events as necessary. 

  • Oversee athletics and activities through the Director of Athletics and Student Activities. 

  • Assist in the selection, retention, and assignment of all building personnel. 

  • Keep abreast of successful instructional strategies and effective practices; Cultivate professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies. 

  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. 

  • Perform other work as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or designee.
