Superintendent of Schools

Bronxville Union Free School District

The Bronxville Union Free School District, one of our nation's most highly-regarded and innovative public-school districts, is seeking a Superintendent of Schools upon the retirement in December 2022 of its Superintendent, Dr. Roy Montesano. Bronxville, in southern Westchester County, is a one square mile community proximal to the business, cultural, and recreational opportunities offered in New York City.

The district is unique in that its three schools are located within one facility, The Bronxville School. Its 1,565 students are motivated and high performing, educated by an enlightened faculty and staff, supported by involved parents, an engaged community, PTA, and a strong Bronxville School Foundation. The Bronxville School is governed by a supportive Board of Education, and all Board of Education candidates are screened by a community nominating committee.

The Board of Education is seeking a leader who can build upon the district's many accomplishments and take it to its next level of excellence. Much of the Bronxville School's recent work has been structured around the Bronxville Promise, which embraces and focuses on innovation, leadership, critical thinking, and engagement with the larger world.

  • District is small with the entire K-12 population in one building; and

  • District enjoys strong support from the community because of its excellent handling of the Pandemic.

 Some of the major leadership challenges for the new superintendent, also cited by staff and residents, are:

  • Fostering continued transparency, trust and support from the school community;

  • Building on the momentum within the school community to bring Bronxville to an even higher level;

  • Communicating effectively in a changing educational and political environment;

  • Encouraging all voices and viewpoints to be a part of the community dialogue;

  • Using the Bronxville Promise to enhance academic achievement and social development; and

  • Developing a systems approach and process to district decision making.

    Following significant staff and community engagement, the Bronxville Board of Education has approved the following specifications for its search for a new Superintendent.

 The successful candidate will be:

  •  An experienced educational leader with a proven record of collaboration with staff and community, who supports the principles embedded in the Bronxville Promise and is committed to taking it to the next level;
