Public Schools of the Tarrytowns - Sleepy Hollow, New York
The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns include students from the historic Villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow and is situated on the Hudson River 20 miles north of midtown Manhattan. The district, which follows the Princeton Plan, is ethnically and socio-economically diverse with high academic standards and achievement. Its caring and dedicated principals and faculty teach a population of approximately 2,600 students across five schools with 97% of its students graduating and 91% going on to higher education.
The District takes great pride in its culture and deep ties to the community with robust partnerships and high rates of volunteerism. The majority of its high school graduates have been enrolled since kindergarten and a high percentage of former students choose to come back to work in the district. The District is noted for its welcoming and open reception to English Language Learners and members of underrepresented communities.
Students benefit from a wide variety of academic, social/emotional and extra-curricular offerings, including:
a broad-based high school curriculum of more than 160 courses, including 19 Advanced Placement courses, 20 honors courses, 13 dual enrollment college-level courses. The district provides equity of opportunity to rigorous academic classwork through open AP enrollment;
a dual-language program offered in grades K-5, and a high school Biliteracy program where students can compete for the Seal of Biliteracy (41 earned the Seal in 2021);
a robust STEM program at all levels of education, including a highly competitive science research program for HS students overseen by a mentor in the field;
established partnerships with colleges, universities, and corporations that provide a variety of educational experiences through projects and internships;
a full interscholastic sports program at the varsity, junior varsity, and modified levels. Students take part in a wide variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities with scores of clubs at the MS and HS levels.
