The Steamboat Springs School District, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Board of Education, is seeking a highly qualified and fully licensed Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position August 1, 2022.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in association with the Colorado Association of School Boards, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the board of education in identifying and screening the candidates.

Location: Most known for Steamboat Ski Resort, there's both a historic downtown and mountain village situated about a few miles apart. Downtown Steamboat Springs is a true western town, with wide streets (for accommodating large cattle herds), welcoming locals, and timeless surrounding natural beauty at an elevation of 6,732′. Steamboat Springs was originally a summer resort before it became known as Ski Town, USA and renowned for its world class skiing and famed Champagne Powder. Travelers in the early 1900s visited Steamboat Springs in the summer months for the natural hot springs and vast hunting and fishing opportunities. Steamboat Springs is located just 160 miles northwest of Denver. Steamboat Springs School District No. RE-2 is a highly rated, public school with students in grades PK, K-12.
The Qualifications
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The board has identified the following desired characteristics:
LEADERSHIP:
Seasoned inspirational leader focused on creating a culture of respect where staff and students are empowered. A collaborative team builder who creates consensus through active listening and supports a systems approach. A leader who can have difficult conversations and is willing to make hard decisions.
VISIONARY:
A creative problem solver who seeks to build support for innovative and strategic thinking. A visionary who creates an environment where we can effectively address challenging issues including attracting and retaining quality staff and planning appropriately for district growth.
EDUCATOR:
An instructional leader with successful classroom and building leadership experience who supports best practices and is data-driven in their decision making. A leader who recognizes the importance of the mental health, climate, and culture in student success and who creates an environment of rigor with the goal of continuously increasing performance so that every student can reach their highest potential.
ACCOUNTABLE:
Ethical, honest, and trustworthy leader who understands the value of transparency. An administrator with in-depth knowledge of school finance who is an effective steward of the taxpayers' contributions to support the learning of each child. An individual who holds themselves and others accountable.
COMMUNICATOR:
An extraordinary communicator who will listen to, authentically engage, and inspire the full array of diverse stakeholders. An approachable leader who is visible, accessible and involved in the community and has the ability to create strong partnerships and trusting relationships with staff, students, administration, and community.
Salary: $190,000-$230,000 based upon experience, with a negotiated benefit package that includes family health, dental and vision, and single life insurance
