The Colorado Springs School District 11, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Board of Education, is seeking a highly qualified, proven, and experienced leader to serve as Superintendent of Schools.  Non-traditional candidates are encouraged to apply. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2022.

McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.

Enrollment: 23,000 students

Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado 

The Qualifications

In order to be considered for the position, candidates must have the background, skills, and abilities to increase student enrollment and raise student achievement and graduation rates for ALL students in a highly diverse, urban school district that strives to “Inspire Every Mind.” The candidate must value developing the whole child while preparing them for college or career readiness.  

Specifically, the Board of Education is seeking a candidate who possesses the following skills and experience:

  • An inspirational and outstanding leader of a large organization with multiple departments (i.e., human resources, finance, communications, curriculum and instruction, information technology, etc.) and a proven ability to lead thousands of employees.  The next superintendent must have demonstrated success turning around an organization and ensuring that all leadership decisions and resources will support a student-centered mission and culture in all District 11 Schools. The selected candidate must have a proven ability to increase student enrollment.  This leader must possess a strong value for educating future generations with a focus on improving academic outcomes for all students that is results-driven and data-proven.  A track record of attracting and retaining high quality and effective team members is also required.

  • An effective communicator, skilled in community engagement who serves as the face of the District.  The candidate must be ethical, honest, compassionate, transparent, and accountable in all interactions with stakeholders.  The next District leader should bring an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to raising community perception of the District and possess the ability to consistently provide clear, accurate, effective, and timely communications to a multitude of stakeholders.   Proven interpersonal skills necessary to inspire employees, students, parents, and community members is essential. An important task for the next leader is to build trust and collaboration within the District 11 community. 

  • A proven manager with experience overseeing multimillion-dollar budgets and the ability to direct and allocate scarce resources to best meet the future needs of the District is essential.  The next superintendent must also have demonstrated the ability to collaborate and negotiate with large employee groups and effectively operate within the terms of employee union agreements.  Demonstrated success in evaluating, prioritizing, and implementing a plan for significant facilities and infrastructure needs across the organization is a high priority. 

Salary Range:  $240,000 - $275,000 plus incentives and benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications, subject to negotiation.
