Superintendent of Schools

Mercer Island School District (WA)

Mercer Island School District is seeking our next Superintendent of Schools to start Jul 1, 2022.

About the District

Mercer Island is a unique and special community: an island of approximately 25,000 in the middle of Lake Washington connected by interstate to a flourishing metropolitan area that is rapidly remaking the world and attracting talent from around the world. The area’s offerings are considered among the most desirable in the country: parks, biking, hiking, skiing, boating, water sports, and cultural and theatrical offerings abound.

The district, with a K-12 student population of approximately 4,000, enjoys a national reputation for quality and excellence, combining academics, cultural expression, and athletic achievement. This tradition of excellence is a major reason many families make Mercer Island their home. The district maintains a graduation rate of over 95 percent with the highest achievement test scores in the state.

The district employs a teaching and support staff of 500 and has an annual operating budget of approximately $72.7 million. The Mercer Island Schools Foundation and the schools' PTAs raise over $2 million dollars annually to help maintain instructional positions and instructional support. The district has one high school, one alternative high school program, one middle school, and four elementary schools, the newest of which was built in 2016.

The district benefits in many ways from the substantial involvement of parents and community.
