The Governing Board of the Humboldt Unified School District, Prescott Valley, Arizona, is seeking a highly qualified, fully certified, educational leader to serve as Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2023.

McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Governing Board in identifying and screening the candidates.

Enrollment: 5,800 students

Location: 100 miles north of Phoenix

The Qualifications

The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The HUSD Governing Board seeks a Superintendent who possesses the following leadership and personal qualities.

A leader who…

  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Has the ability to build trust easily with staff, parents, and community members, and works well with the Governing Board

  • Is a person of good character and models honesty, integrity, and accountability

  • Has the ability to promote rigorous curriculum, instruction, assessment, and academic achievement while understanding the role of standardized test scores in the well-rounded education of HUSD students

  • Will become actively involved, maintain high levels of visibility, and understands our community 

  • Has experience in district operations, budgeting, facilities, food service, and transportation

  • Has knowledge of Arizona assessment protocols, standards, and educational strategies

Position Requirements

These are the minimum requirements for consideration for the position of Superintendent in HUSD.

  • Master’s degree or higher in Education or related field from an accredited college or university

  • 3-5 years of teaching experience (preK-12)

  • Minimum of three years principal and/or district level administrator experience

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the minimum requirements, these are the preferred qualifications for the position.

  • A valid State of Arizona Superintendent's Certificate or qualifies for reciprocity (has current Superintendent Certificate from another state) or will begin the process of gaining an Arizona Superintendent's Certificate within a specified time period

  • Minimum one year District level administrator experience

Salary and Contract:  The salary range for this position is $145,000 - $170,000. The salary for the successful candidate will be determined during contract negotiations and will be based on a variety of factors including experience and professional preparation.

Benefits include health insurance and possibly other items that are subject to negotiation with the Governing Board.

Search Timeline:

  • Closing date for applications: April 20, 2023 (11:30 p.m. central time)

  • Governing Board selects and interviews semi-finalists Week of May 1, 2023

  • Interviews with the Governing Board: Week of May 8, 2023 (tentatively)

  • Selection of new Superintendent: TBD

  • Start date: July 1, 2023
